Weave pattern: High Crick's Delight by Day and by Night
Item
Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).
-
These weaving drafts and watercolor drawdown illustrate the coverlet pattern known as High Crick's Delight by Day and by Night. To record a pattern, a weaver creates a draft and/or a drawdown. A draft looks much like a strip of musical notation; a drawdown is a visual grid that illustrates a single weaving block. This drawdown was made by Frances Louisa Goodrich (1856-1944), who recorded weaving patterns she collected in and around Asheville, North Carolina. This pattern came to Goodrich by way of Mrs. Shearer of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Goodrich made a note in another booklet titled "Sources" that Mrs. Shearer received the draft from Lucy Starkweather. She goes on in her writing "Lucy Starkweather. She was d. of Avery & Sarah (Meach) Starkweather. Lucy b in Galway N.Y. Sept. 3, 1774. d in Palmyra, N.Y. Aug. 3, 1870. She was great-aunt of M.Y.S. - who often heard of her."
