May, 23, 18,62 Dear Companion, it is with great pleasure that I take the present opportunity of writing you a fiew lines in answer to yours of the ,18, onst whitch gave me greate pleasure to here that you was all well These lines leaves me well at this time though I have bin in bad health for som time past but am now in common health I hav nothing new to write to you at this time more than has bin [] before ther are a greate deel of sickness in this Brigade Ther from four to five buried every day for a week not so many of our regt as others the 35 has losed about 36 men in a week ther are many cases of mumps in our Regt & some cases of feaver as to war news we have not mutch reliable news lately it would be a delight to me to be at home with you but
