  • Page 11 I to Siler's Bald and on to the site of the old Hall Cabin (part of the Appalachian trail). It goes along the Smoky divide and is, I think, an easy trail. The distance is about ten miles. I walked it once. There are several spectacular and beautiful trails to LeConte, and the view from there is superb. I am sorry that I never got on Mt. Kephart nor Mt. Guyot. I have enjoyed writing of my trips out into the Smokies. I rather feel as If I have been talking a little with my old friends out there - many of whom have crossed the Great Divide. On every New Years Eve that rolls around, I always drink a toast to the Great Smoky Mountains - and to "Absent Friends". Dodette Westfeldt Grinnell Asheville, N. C. July, 1955
