My dear Sir;- In consultation with Prof. Holrns this morning our Committee decided to try and secure Hon. Kope Elias of Franklin as one of the me.n to preceed to Washington in the Park matter as suggested by yourself. Since Prof. Holms1 departure developeraents here have shown that it might not he "best to have Rlias on the ground at this time on account of the Vance-Rlias controversy which occurred several years ago. We have therefore decided not to employ him unless we first had assurances from you that these grounds are fearless and that his assistance would he perfectly agreeable to you. As a second party Maj. Rollins has consented to go to Washington, hut will he unable to leave before Monday next. Very truly yours, Die. P.N.H.

Once the Appalachian National Park Association submitted its memorial to Congress in 1900, members and supporters made frequent trips to Washington DC to lobby for their effort. This 24 pages of correspondence discusses one such trip to Washington D. C in 1901.
