  • This week’s program is a tribute to Victoria A. Casey McDonald, who passed away on August 17. The show begins with Amy’s memories of her friendship with Victoria and their work on various projects. After Amy’s segment, Norma Clayton tells of how she came to be friends with Victoria and how important their friendship was to her. Doreyl then talks about her friendship with Victoria and the work they did together through Catch the Spirit of Appalachia. Doreyl’s segment is followed by Victoria singing “Sweet Little Jesus Boy.” After this is a mock interview that Amy did with Victoria to teach her how to conduct interviews for Black Roots of Appalachia. Victoria talks about her life and her family and receives advice from Amy on how to do her interviews. This segment is followed by “Abiding in the Vine” by Betty Collins Brown. Joe Rhinehart then talks about some of the things he and Victoria did with the Webster Historical Society and other historical endeavors in Jackson County. “Oak Grove Church” by Lonesome Sound follows his segment. Judy Rhodes then talks about the circumstances in which she met Victoria. This is followed by “Go Rest High” by the Hominy Valley Boys, and the show ends with “When I Get to Glory” by Nathan Parrish & the Interstate Quartet. Interlude and background music throughout the show was by Jo Northup and Richard Birt.
