Stories of mountain folk broadcast: 2013-05-04
-
The show opens with Amy’s story “Junk on Paydays,” which is about her spending time with her siblings as a teenager in the 1950s. The story is accompanied by the theme music from the television series The Twilight Zone. Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is Daniel Isaac Mull, who is a music student at Western Carolina University. He talks about how he came to be a musician and discusses his future plans. The interview is followed by “Tuba Cheer” performed by the Golden Buffalo Marching Band. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks with David Holt, who talks about spending his life teaching and performing traditional Appalachian music. He also talks about performing for the Junior Appalachian Musicians program. “Forked Deer” by David Holt follows the interview. On Stories of the Cherokee, Robert talks with Warren DuPree, who talks about his mother, Betty DuPree, who helped establish the Qualla Arts & Crafts Cooperative and also had a great deal of influence on his life. The interview is followed by “The Beloved Woman’s Song” by Eddie Bushyhead. On Down Another Road, Judy talks again with Kristen Vincent, Kelly Banner, and Sheila Kay Adams. They share childhood memories. “The Flyaway Horse” by The Butterpats follows the interview, and the show ends with “Amazing Grace” by the Cockman Family.
