Amy opens the show with a story about a boy named James; they met in the 8th grade and he was her first love. The story is accompanied by “Melody of Love” performed by Richard Hayman. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with David Starnes, who is director of athletic bands at Western Carolina University. He talks about the organization of the athletic bands and goes into great detail about the WCU marching band and its activities and honors. He also talks about his career and how he got into the field. The interview is followed by “Block State Red and White” by the NC State Wolfpack marching band. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Peter Koch, who is the education associate at the Mountain Heritage Center at Western Carolina University. He talks about his work, which entails traveling to schools and discussing regional history, as well as hosting educational summer camps. “So Long to the Red River Valley” by the Butterpats follows the interview. On Stories of the Cherokee, Robert talks with Sally and Todd Kent about intercultural marriage and the challenges of integration into native culture. The interview is followed by “The Beloved Woman’s Song” by Eddy Bushyhead. Judy’s guest on Down Another Road is Woody Wiggins (Ellwood Holler Wiggins). He is the pastor of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church and Browns View United Methodist Church in Candler, both of which date to the late 1880s. He talks about the history of the churches, which arose out of a difference of opinion on slavery. “God’s Rainbow Promise” by Betty Collins Brown follows the interview, and the show ends with “The Old Wood Burning Stove” by the Company Store.
