Stories of mountain folk broadcast: 2012-10-06
-
This week, Amy’s story is “The Battery Operated Radio.” She reminisces about some of the old radio shows. (The segment is followed by “The William Tell Overture” by Ron Smith from Sylva.) On Creative Corner, Doreyl’s guests are Jason and Silas Ray from Sylva, a father and son duo, who discuss the upcoming mural the youth will complete for Colorfest. (“Lonesome Road Blues” by the Ross Brothers from Balsam Mountain follows the interview.) Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Henry Queen from Caney Fork (John’s Creek), who talks about growing up in a musical Appalachian family. (“Caney Fork” & “Cumberland Gap” by Henry Queen conclude the segment.) On Apple Butter, Nicole interviews Dawn Behling from Cullowhee, who discusses the process for her paintings and collages, and showing at Colorfest. (The interview is followed by “The Water is Wide” by Teresa Eberly Davis from Cullowhee.) Judy’s guest on Down Another Road is once again Francis Corn Briggs from Arden, who shares more stories, this time about Avery’s Creek School. (“Blackberry Blossom” by Ron Smith follows the segment.) The closing song is “Quicksilver” by Dusk Weaver from Whittier.
