Tomas'School of Human Relations, authorizes the graduate whose name is hereby affixed to exhibit this diploma in solemn proof of any stories he may tell in future years about his experiences". The board feels that 100 days of rumors and anti-rumors have given the student ample ability to manufacture convincing stories. It should be noted also that internees have studied many additional courses, besides those required for graduation, including: Entomology, the science of bed'bugs; structural engineering, the art of sleeping on a cot; chemistry and how to wash clothes; philosophy, or waiting in line; industrial engineering, opening a'can, and physical education, or the missing drink. This diploma may be used for entrance into any post graduate school for stevedoring, ditch digging or weed pulling. The board knows that in those fields particularly its alumni will justly honor their alma mater. These two pages of April, 1942 are part of the Santo Tomas Internment Camp newspaper “The Internitis,” and were created by internees in Manila, Philippines. This edition, published by Russell Brines and James D. Stuart certifies that Ruth W. Hooper has made it to 100 days and provides a satirical look at life in the internment camp. The camp, also known as the Manila Internment Camp, was run by the Japanese military during World War II and housed over 3,000 internees, including Ruth W. Hooper and her husband W. Carr Hooper, from January 1942 until February 1945.
