  • The Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild met for its annual membership meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 31, 1933. Meeting minutes generally contain committee reports, financial statement, new members lists, announcements of regional events, and discussion about special issues facing the organization. In this particular meeting Marguerite Butler (later Marguerite Butler Bidstrup) gave a report on the finances of the Allanstand Cottage Industries. Lucy Morgan reported for the Membership and Standards Committee. Clementine Douglas spoke for the Committee Investigating Possible New Locations for Guild Sales. Mr. Hughes, who was investigating an old mill in Virginia, wrote about his findings. Three recommendations were presented for vote including one to change the organization's name to Southern Highland Handicraft Guild. Allen Eaton told about the American Federation of Arts exhibition which was scheduled to open in Blacksburg, Virginia in the summer. A membership list was included with the Guild's financial statement. The Guild's name changed one more time, in the 1990s, when it became the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
