Item
  • The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild met for its annual membership meeting in Asheville, N.C. on March 9, 1944. Meeting minutes generally contain committee reports, financial statements, new members, announcements of regional events, and discussion about special issues facing the organization. These minutes also include the Board minutes from March 8, 1944. The board addressed Esther Bloxton's concerns about Allanstand and spoke with Mr. McCuistion of the General Education Board about the exploratory study for craft education. On March 9, preceding the members' meeting there was a program "to pay tribute to the memory of Miss Frances Louisa Goodrich, who died on February 20, 1944." The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild was founded in 1930 as the Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild. The name was changed to the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild in 1933 and again in the 1990s to the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
