"IKA ISANG TAON NG DIGMAAN SA LALONG MALAKING SILANGANG ASIA" Ni Tiniente Kor. "ONE YEAR OF THE GREATER EAST ASIA WAR" By Lt. Col. NAKAZIMA Chief of the Department of Information 1 /""XNE year has elapsed since launching the Greater East Asia War for the creation of the New Order. The brilliant war results achieved in so short a period have astounded the whole world. The arrogant Anglo-American foothold in the Orient was dislodged; their imperialistic designs frustrated; and their kleptomaniac influence completely wiped out. The first step toward building Asia for the Asiatics has been made. It would be superflous to reiterate that the Philippines, as a member of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, should, under the stewardship of Japan, build a New History. It is indeed deplorable for the Philippines not to have an autochthonous history on account of the continuous Spanish and American domination. But. all of th^se impediments have been cleared and the Avenue of New Era lies ahead of you. Now, it is up to you to conscientiously shoulder tne responsibility of rebuilding the New Philippines. Nothing can be accomplished waiting for opportunities or taking things as they come along. It is an indisputable fact that you have to struggle hard with even a greater courage and determination. The New Era has dawned and Japan is extending her helping hand towards the rebuilding of the New Philippines. Recently, the pictorial magazine "SHIN SEIKI", replete with photographs, made a bow to the public to accelerate the movement for the reconstruction of the New Philippines. Photographs are said to be the "Universal Language", and, furthermore, it is said that "Photographs Never Lie". For that very reason, we are using photogrart because they are the best medium, to translate the authentic fact) Such is the underlying tenet in bringing forth this publication. Number 3 issue which coincides with the First Anniversary of Armageddon is being published in order to further instill to the readej the lofty ideals of the avowed purpose of the War of Greater East As

This edition of Japanese propaganda magazine, “Shin Seiki” (text in Tagalog and English), published by the Department of Information, was brought back to America by Carr and Ruth Hooper who were interned at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, Philippines from January 1942 to February 1945. Hand-written notes made by Carr refer to several photos and captions. The camp, also known as the Manila Internment Camp, was run by the Japanese military during World War II and housed over 3,000 internees from January 1942 until February 1945.
