This essay was written by Bessie Lee Blauvelt in the 1940s or 1950s and describes her work with natural materials such as seeds, nuts, burrs, and cones. They tell about her early interest in nature and what can be done with natural objects. She lists some of the items she uses in her nature plaques, and tells a story about how she earned back the price of a chicken. At various times throughout its history, the Southern Highland Craft Guild has asked its members for information about their craft and what it has meant to them. Blauvelt was a member of the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild from 1942 to 1950 and this essay was most likely written in response to such a request.
