Ambler, Asheville, IT. n. , [y dear Sir: - I have your esteemed favor of recent date, and in reply I beg to say that I am engaged in the trial of a capital case which will render it impossible for me to accept your cordial invitation to be with you on Wednesday next, on the occasion of the visit of the Secretary.of Agriculture. I have requested Prof. Holmes to ask the secretary to come down and spend a night with me while he is in Asheville. Will you kindly see the Secretary and also say to him that I would be delighted to have him come arid spend one night with me while he is in this section, and explain to him why I cannot see him while he is in Asheville. This 22-page series of letters discusses a planned visit with Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson. In January 1901, the Appalachian National Park Association presented a memorial to Congress. This proposal was referred to the Committee on Agriculture. On April 17, 1900, the officers of the Park Association appeared before the Agriculture Committee to present their case. The association had subsequent dealings with the Secretary of Agriculture from then until they disbanded in 1905.
