Scroggs store interior with Fred O. Scroggs

  • This photograph depicts the interior of Fred Scroggs' general store in Brasstown, N.C. The photograph was taken around 1930 and shows Scroggs behind the counter. Fred Otto Scroggs was an influential figure in the Brasstown community and was instrumental in gathering local support for the creation of the John C. Campbell Folk School. The Scroggs' store was often used a gathering place for various community events. One of the oldest names in Brasstown, the Scroggs family gave a large portion of land for the school at its inception.
