Robertson Dies; Industrial Giant Reuben B. Robertson, an Ohio native who built Champion Papers Inc. of Canton into a major industry of international scope, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in Asheville's Memorial Mission Hospital at the age of 93. Despite h i s advancing years, the tall, robust industrialist had remained remarkably active in community affairs here until his hospitalization a few days ago. "He was still going to parties and the symphony and entertaining old friends until last week," his son, Dr. Logan Thomson Robertson of Asheville, said Tuesday. 'He was cheerful and opening packages yesterday (Christmas). There was no specific cau3e of death. It's just one of those things where the machine finally winds down." Private funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Unitarian Universalist Church with the Rev. Tracy M. Pullman and the Rev. C. A. Zabriskie officiating. The body will lie in state Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Reuben B. Robertson Memorial YMCA in Can ton. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Robertson was one of this century's great in d u s t r i a 1 leaders, not only in the South but in the entire nation. Many- honors came to him because of his distinguished achievements in science, in industry and, particularly, in promoting social welfare through improved industrial relations. When he was named Man of the South in 1950, a writer who knew Mr. Robertson said he deserved all the honors that had been bestowed upon him, "because he is a big man by any yardstick — big physically. big mentally, big in heart and big in achievement." Since 1954, Mr. Robertson had made his home at Hope- mont on Town Mountain. Reuben Buck Robertson was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 11, 1879, the son of Charles Dumbreck and Cynthia Buck Robertson.
