Pink Beds reconstruction in progress

Description

Two workers attach wood planks to the reconstructed frame of the Biltmore Forest School schoolhouse in Pink Beds. Several piles of lumber can be seen to the right of the image. The plaque that is affixed to a rock in the center of the image was dedicated by the Alumni of the Biltmore Forest School in the early 1950s. A metal barrel is in the foreground. Reconstruction of the school's buildings began in 1967 and the site was designated as "The Cradle of American Forestry" by Congress in 1968. In 1974, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
