Old shape of jug or pitcher

  • wcu_craft_revival-1957.jpg
  • This photograph depicts a traditional pottery pitcher with handle, probably made in the early 1900s. Not much is known about the piece or the potter. The back of the photograph reads "Old shape of jug - or pitcher. This is unglazed but the pitchers were often glazed." The photograph belonged to Frances Goodrich, who probably kept the photograph as a record of a piece she owned or as an example of traditional mountain craft work. Goodrich collected numerous Appalachian craft items; her object collection was donated to the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild.
