  • These military orders of February 18, 1943 from the headquarters of the 79th Infantry Division state that Robert Venoy Reed is to attend a surgical course. Venoy Reed entered the United States Army October, 1942 during World War II. He became a medic and landed in Normandy, France at the Omaha beachhead on June 16th, 1944 ten days after D-Day. Captured by German forces, Reed was a prisoner of war from January 19, 1945 to April 29, 1945. He returned to Jackson County, North Carolina and married Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hope (1920-2016) June 2, 1946.
  • World War II
