On August 10th, yo\ir Secretary notified these gentlemen that the Treasurer had paid out for this Committee money to the amount of $140,00 and requested them as per their agreement to pay in the 1/4 of the amount each had guaranteed. TBhiPiTpn of these gentlemen have paid the same while fsfcteaae are yet to be heard from. Your Secretary-Treasurer has been greatly handicapped in the performance of his duties from the fact that the Association has not furnished him with sufficient funds for carrying on the work. Appalachian National Park Association secretary Ambler drafted this memorandum to the president and members of the association. Chase P. Ambler (1865-1932) was a founding member and long-time secretary of the association. He reports that there are currently 163 paid memberships, a mailing list of 914 addresses, and a file of newspaper clippings numbering 960. The memorandum goes on to describe a July 1901 visit to North Carolina headed by Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson (1835-1920) to assess sites for a possible national park and forest reserve.
