These documents pertain to the life and work of Howard C. Ford, more commonly known as Toni Ford. Included are a biographical profile written to accompany an exhibit at the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild in 1985 and two pages of biographical notes, undated. Ford grew up in the midwest and received art training in various colleges, including the Art Institute of Chicago. He is closely tied to Penland School of Crafts, where he and his wife lived and taught as early as 1930. He designed looms for Berea College in Kentucky, helped to set up Watauga Industries in North Carolina, taught industrial arts classes at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina, and assisted Cherokee woodcarver Goingback Chiltoskey in setting up an industrial arts and crafts program at the Cherokee High School in Cherokee, North Carolina. Ford worked for the U.S. State Department from 1952-1966 as an international advisor on setting up small industries in developing countries. He was active in the Guild and became a Life Member in 1974. Ford died in 1977.
