not least it fills up a big hole very quickly. If the yarn is woven in loosely, when washed it fuzzes up and is soft. It takes less skill in the art of darning, but for the sake of your prestige don't ever let a really good motherly housekeeper catch you at it. She will be nothing short of horrified. I am personally of the opinion that a mother might better have a good time with her youngsters than put house-wifely art into their stockings, but there are others who do not approve of my method in that respect. The second thing is in the matter of easing flea bites. There is a certain amount of self control which one must have, so as to enjoy the good things an outing offers and not be made miserable entirely, but, with all one's self control there are times when a flea can nearly drive one wild. That is the time when I hunt for a piece of soap, I prefer Ivory if it is to be had. Wet the p soap and rub directly on the flea bite, the rubbing satisfies that almost irresistable desire to scratch at the same time without breaking the skin, and a coating of soap is left on which seems to quiet the irritation. When the soap has reached a certain point in the process of drying there is a slight itching for a few seconds, which disappears when the drying i€ finished. The coating of soap will last for a considrable time, and for me the bite has no more interest .after the fourth application at best. It is such a simple remedy that some of my friends turn up their noses, and try one thing after another.

In a letter to Horace Kephart on July 12, 1919, Louisa R. Gleason describes her enjoyment of Kephart’s book “Camping and Woodcraft”. She recommends two helpful remedies to use while camping: darning (repair holes in stockings) and treating flea bites with soap.
