  • I September 17th, i<>oc. Professor Gifford Pinchot, .Government Forester^ "aahingto.*., P. C. My dear Sir;* I understand that it is oxpeefced that the next Session of Congress will authorise an appropriation of money for the purpose of purchasing land in ftorth Carolina for tho proposed Hon thorn National Park, 1 first heard of this project through ~br, C p. Ambler, doeretary and Treasurer of the Appalachian "Park Association of Auhoville, P. 0., who hearing t-at I represented the ownorr- of a largo tract of tinjberland in that section wrote to me inquiring whether or not it was for sale. The property is known as the "Vtfiittier Tract* of timber- land and is located in 'iwaine Co., uortb Carolina, on tho V.vjrphy Branch of tho Old Richmond & Danville Railroad, about 85 miles v/03t of Aahevillo, It consists of about 78,000 acres, and if your investigators, who, I understand are now in the field at work will look at this property and report to yon, I will facilitate them in every possible way. We have a care-taker on tho tract living at Pryson City, who is thoroughly familiar with tho property, and will take your men over it at any time- if you so desire. If after they have examined and reported to yon, yon think it might be suitable for the work yew have in hand, if yon will kindly eommunieato with no, w© will see what can bo done ro- y^rding terms. Yours very truly# !. C,
