  • In this letter of July 28, 1862, one Siler brother writes to another about recent health issues and states that he hopes these problems will cause him to soon be discharged. He reports that Wiley is believed to be dying in a nearby hospital.
  • ______ Siler to Dear Brother, July 28, 1862 Camp Near Hanover C. N. [?] Va July 28th 1862 My Dear Brother Again our little circle the Cartoogeechayeges is in sorrow and gloom. I believe I men- -tioned in my last that we left three sick in Richmond in care of Dr B.W. Moore. We got a letter from Wiley writen last Tuesday saying that he thought they was ____ dieing. You are aware that he was always my favorite cousin My fondest recollections of youthful as well as of child- hood pleasures are intimate -ly connected with him. Fondly I had anticipated the restoration of peace and hoped that again he and I should be permitted to live over again the happy days we have spent on Nantiyalee. but alas those very ______ did stands where we have enjoyed our selves so much together, (should I ever be permited to return to there) will be on that very account be the more pleasing. Poor Aunt Polly Lenill [?] a most break her heart. A little over a year ago she has two fine, __able, ____ -ly boys at home. Now she has no son. My own health is rapid -ly declining. So much so that D__ Hillard has recommended that I be sent home. I do not know for certain wheter his advice will be taken or not but I hope it will, for I do- not believe I shall ever get well here. He says that I have both chronic Dearhea and Dyspessia. You need not write me any more till you hear from me again. but I should be glad you would write to Love at Waynesville and if I go home I can hear from you that way and if I don’t I will write you again soon.
