Letter to Capt. J.G. Crawford, December 24, 1862

Item
?

Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).

  • In a letter of December 24, 1862, an unknown family member writes to Captain J.G. Crawford to clarify details of expenses incurred in recent transportation and settling of Rufus's estate.
  • [?] to Capt. J.G. Crawford, December 24, 1862 Dec 24 1862 Capt J G Crawford At the request of my Father I sent a statement of expenses on the expenses of the Team returning was 16.62 ½ paid jones for ____ trips ___ 1.25 per day 17.50___ 34.12 ½ you paid jones I believe 25.00___ 9.12 ½ Take off 2 days wages jones going to Mr Osburns & back to sweet water 2.50____ 6.62 ½ to this add 4 bushels corn put in at home 6.00____ 12.62 ½ you will see that I say nothing about provisions for the driver going or coming. There was a surplus horse coming back and I am wiling to let these two items ballance cash other from what Jones tells me you were led into a mistake about the probable expenses of returning by not taking into account the corn put in at the start. This I believe lasted about half way and made the expenses going down run about one half what it really was. The trip was fourteen days. There were not two whole days lost in going to Mr. Osborns but we set the trip down at Twelve days The agreement was I believe for $3.50 to 4.00 Pa is wiling to the first named price Twelve days at 3.50 is – $42.00 To which add ballance on the other page 12 62 ½ $54.62 ½ Col. A.P. Davidson goes to Richmond soon and you will very much oblige by sending him the necessary statement for collecting due to the estate of brother Rufus A copy of a letter written to J.G. Crawford December 24th 1862
