always wanted to be independant [sic] and in business for himself. IBM is almost as regimented as the Army. Furthermore if he stayed with them he would never have a permenant [sic] home because they shift their xx people around just the way the Army does and Buddy has done enough shifting, he says, in the past four years to last him the rest of his life. So they have bought a nich [sic] little house out about 8 miles next to a country club and he is doing what he wants to do. And that certainly is the way it should be. Frances is still working out at the Bureau but may quit before long. With the War over its just a job and she could be plenty busy right here at home helping Jane. The only difficulty there is that she wont let Jane alone but wants to boss over breath the poor child draws. She gets decidedly worse in that regard as she gets older. So it may be just as well that she is away all day. It does mean though that she works too hard for she does most of the marketing and all of the cooking after she gets home at 5 o’clock. Well I guess that’s the news. Let me know whether you can come if I come and get you. The weather should be nice any time after the first of April down here. Narcissus are about four inches high now, the bush honeysuckle is leafing out, the grass is getting green and while we will probably have a short cold spell yet its safe to call Spring here. Love

In this letter of March 9, 1945, Leonard Kephart (1892-1988) writes his mother, Laura Kephart to update her on his family. Barbara, Ralph, and Jane are visiting with their children. He fills her in on the grandchildren as well as his work, which is supposed to be slower, but is busier than ever. He suggests ways in which she can come and stay with him for a bit over the spring and encourages her to do so. He lets her know what everyone is doing now that the war is over. His son-in-law is still in the army and may stay there, Buddy is working in the cement and building materials business, and his wife Frances quit her job with the Bureau to help Jane with the children.
