Dear Sir. Have just received my Journal and now reply to your inquiry of some days ago. On Page,691, I find tne following.Mr. John P. Thomas, Jr, A Concurrent Resolution favoring tne estaolishment of a National Forest Reserve in the Southern Appalachian Mountain region. , Considered immediately, agreed to and ordered sent to the Senate. On page 60b, of Senate Journal I find Resolution was sent to Senate for concurrence,Same in that Branch was agred to and on Page,616, of House Journal I find same returned to our Body concurred in. This is the purport of tne Resolution, and I do not find where any Committee was asked for or any-thing that would indicate any further action was asked for by tne introducer of tne Resolution. The introducer of same lives in Columbia. S. C. and would be glad to give you any information he can I am sure. This series of letters has to do with legislation proposed by the by the Appalachian National Park Association. On January 4, 1900, the association submitted a Memorial to Congress; on May 25, 1900, a bill passed authorizing funds to investigate the possibility of a national park; several states passed resolutions in support of the park; in January 1901, President McKinley expressed support of the project. Although the organization had success early on, their efforts met with resistance and the organization disbanded in 1905.
