  • going to Cynwyd for Thanks-g, a hurry message came from Margaret (Ross’s widow, in Cynwyd) saying “I asked her for the 29”; my house will be full for Thanks-g.” This upset all Lucy’s plans & she had to take her to Masonville, because she refused to stay at the farm with her own granddaughter & Mrs. Pew & a turkey dinner. Fritz has ar- ranged for Mrs. Pew to stay at the farm to look after Mrs. F. but if Mrs. F. finds it out- well “Hell will break loose.” A long harangue to show what trouble one old lady can make. She does not fit into the Kephart picture at all. When I get to be so unbearable, I hope some one will hit me on the head. I really should not criticize G. Mack because Howard won’t take a cent for my being here, although I am using their old furniture etc. that was left here & nobody wanted. Of course I am paying for every thing except rent. Guess that is partly paid for as one night about 11 o’clock, I discovered a fire up in his woods-some hunters smoking probably. I roused Alfred-they live in the N. downstairs here in this big house- he got Harry & they got it out before any damage was done. The wind came up at midnight & his whole lot could
