Professional bearers that the undertaker will supply. As I have cared for my Spirit to the best of my ability, no service is necessary. No coffin. The sham and show of coffins is especially dis- yasteful [sic] to me. I prefer a box filled with evergreens. If feasible my body is to be cremated and the ashes sent to the Post Master at Bryson, N.C. He to deliver the package to the local Scout Master, or some proper person, who will attend to burying it in the grave with my husband. This is not intended to be cold blooded or heartless. It seems useless and foolish to spend money and render service, when it is too late to help me live Laura M. Kephart Jan. 21 1935 Dear Leonard, This expression of my wishes is being sent to Barbara & Cornelia. One is not going to Margaret, because it is not necessary to shock her churchly sense until the time comes. Nor to Lucy because she does not see why I care about what happens after I am dead, & that it is really none of my business; nor to George, although he agrees with me (or did at one time) because he might not be in a position to do as I ask. I chose the postmaster & Scout leader, because any more personal choice might die before I do. over

In this letter of January 21, 1935, Laura Kephart writes to her son, Leonard Kephart (1892-1988) regarding her funeral wishes after she has died. She lets him know that she has sent the same information to his siblings Barbara and Cornelia, but not to Margaret, Lucy, or George.
