it was a cheap picnic place. Roy asked an old dame in the back yard what place it was. “it is a private place, owned by sum brothers (gave the address) is called the ‘Old Ferris Pl.’ and if you don’t get out I will let the dogs loose.” Naturally we came away. As we had not reached the end of the point we continued along F. St. which for some distance must be the only land in sight at high tide. At the end we came smack against a gate which said no trespass as it was the property of the Good Shepherd! A woman came around the end of the gate where there was

This letter of September 19, 1927 from Laura Kephart to George and Pauline Kephart was sent to "Dear Children." Partially for the sake of her grandson, Roy Ferris, Laura describes in detail a visit she took to Throgs Neck, New York in search of her ancestor's home, the "Old Ferris Place" which was used as a headquarters for General Howe during the Revolutionary War.
