  • Mar. 13, 1946 Dear family My lists, same as some other things, have been a bit mixed lately, so the enclosed may may duplicate former enclosures if so, do as you please with them. The letter is a copy of one Julia & I found when sorting over an unbelievable lot of old letters & trash. Susie had the copies made for me, as it did not seem necessary to start a lot of talk by having them made in Ithaca. This town has more than a proneness to not mind its own business. David is in Newport, or already left them on the light Cruiser Montpelier, for a trip up the Atlantic coast to Maine & back by way of Bermuda. At least that was orders, the last report here. The Cornell bunch is being kept together, which pleases the boys. Jimmie Warren is on the Barton, which is to be the Flag Ship for Squadron 7 to view the atomic bomb experiment. I think this detail should be volunteer job. Lucy just phoned she would be down in 20 minutes to take to town, so will finish [the following is written horizontally in the left hand margins]: I wanted this to reach you on the 14th - I thought of you all but you know how plans turn out
