presents order. However I am going to forgive you because it has given, & will give-me, so much pleasure, it will keep my heart warm in spite of snow & loneliness. Lately, in my reading, two truths have come to me - “You can take no more out of the World than you have put into it.” “It is very lonely to grow old alone.” One generation does not speak the language of another generation.

In this letter of December 15, 1951, Laura Kephart writes her children to thank them for a package. She is reminded of a trip they took out West where they saw men starting to carve Lincoln’s nose, spoiling the mountain side. She mentions that she is lonely, but that she has had a happy life and is proud of the morals and manners of her children and their spouses.
