  • got the shell & it full of powder and brought it in to camps the weather is very warm here now and the water very bad I cannot tell you how long we will stay at this plase. I understand that W.H. Thomas is going to make up another company in Jackson. I do not want any of you boys to go in to this company let him rally his Indians for the way he has acted he is not fit to command anybody but the Indians. So let him rally them and feede them on cod fish he was an [illegible] trust hand to hips and the rest of us to leave our homes and families so deare to us & then what way did he perceede would not let his party indians go without. They could be equalized with us poor whits that is ready & willing to defend our rights should I ever forget him no never so just let him take his red skins and guarde the olde Smokey if he thinks the danger is all there. Write soon so I must close for I am so nervous I cannot write no more at the present but still remains your brother till death. John J. Buchanan To C.S. Buchanan Give my best respects to all enquiring friends
