John C. Campbell Folk School, no. 5 (April 1928)
Item
Item’s are ‘child’ level descriptions to ‘parent’ objects, (e.g. one page of a whole book).
-
John C. Campbell Folk School published a series of newsletters from 1926 to 1950. Written like a letter from the school's director, the newsletter is a source of information about the classes and activities at the Folk School and their impact on the surrounding community. This issue describes how lessons are still held in the Community Room, where the daily routine involves singing, Bible reading, history, geography, reading, writing, and gymnastics. The boys practice land surveying with Leon Deschamps and agriculture with Georg Bidstrup. The girls prepare meals and create handmade objects. A public health nurse, Caroline Kidder, comes to offer a special lecture on health, presented to both women and men. This issue is the first to have a detachable donation slip for the school's "immediate needs" which include continued construction on the Community House and a water system. Also included is a letter of support from a Danish school administrator.
