  • John C. Campbell Folk School published a series of newsletters from 1926 to 1950. Written like a letter from the school's director, the newsletter is a source of information about the classes and activities at the Folk School and their impact on the surrounding community. This issue provides a summary of the first fifteen years of the John C. Campbell Folk School. The school recounts its success in the areas of farm, forestry, plant, forge, shop, and school-initiated cooperatives. The Danish-founded mission to "awaken from indifference, inspire interest, and arouse initiative" has proved a successful formula for the Appalachian flavored folk school. One major tangible way the school has succeeded in its goals is the land ownership of past students, proving the desire of young people to stay in the country, as opposed to abandoning it for larger cities.
