  • SAM TATE, President TATE, Executive Vice-President C&ju«.j /?Z?J TATE MOUNTAIN ESTATES, INC. In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Js[orth Georgia THOS. K. GLENN. Vice President H. L. LITCHFIELD, Secretary C. H. CANDLER, Vice-Pres.dent TATE. GEORGIA W. M. DUNN, TREASURER P. W. JONES, Vice-President WILLIS J. M1LNER, JR.. Gen. Mgr. CANDLER BUILDING ATLANTA, GEORGIA To the Stockholders and Owners of Membership Units: It seems timely to advise you of the progress which is being made in the development of your property, and the program of further improvements which has been outlined by your Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Roads: "The Sky Line Trail," at an average elevation of more than 3,000 feet, from the top of Burrell Mountain, six miles, to the top of Mt. Oglethorpe, affords a scenic trip unsurpassed in Eastern America. From our own rock quarry and with a sizeable crushing plant, we have secured enough stone to put our roads in reasonably safe condition for the coming winter. In consequence of this, people in increasing numbers from cities all over the State are enjoying visits to your property. To those of us who have long been familiar with the beauty of this section, it is most interesting to hear the expressions of genuine surprise at the fact that there is such a magnificent spot in so short a motoring distance from Atlanta and from Georgia cities. We now have over 20 miles of roadways graded and in condition for all-weather travel. This includes, in addition to the roads shown in red on the map, 10 miles between Jasper and the Community Center and five and one-half miles along the Skyline Trail to Mt. Oglethorpe. Construction on Dam and Lake: The completion of the dam in late December of this year will guarantee the reality of Lake Sequoyah in the early spring, covering fifty acres at an elevation of 2,850 feet. The dam will be 48 feet high, the depth of the water at the dam will be about 45 feet. A concrete outlet culvert will carry piping for draining the lake with a spillway of reinforced concrete, designed to safely carry off the flow of the present creek below which there will still remain the "Cascades," which are of unusual beauty and interest. The lake bed will be thoroughly cleared and will provide a shore line of more than two miles, with straight-away dashes for boating of nearly one mile. At 2,850 feet, we will have crystal clear water and bathing and fishing; an elevation probably greater than that of any other lake in the East comparable in size to Lake Sequoyah. Golf Course: The entire eighteen holes of the golf course have been fully cleared and on the first nine holes, work has progressed to a point where construction of tees and greens is well advanced, and the seeding of fairways under way. It is the promise of our golf course architects and their superintendent of construction that the first nine holes will be ready for play in May of next year, with the full eighteen holes available about the middle of the summer. Connahaynee Lodge: We have just begun construction of Connahaynee Lodge on the top of Mt. Burrell. The location is unusual even in this property of unique scenic values. Here we have an elevation of 3,250 feet with a 360 degree view, affording an outlook, we are constantly reminded, not found elsewhere in the Southern Appalachians. The "Lodge" will have fourteen bedrooms for guests, which will undoubtedly be in constant demand on the part of our stockholders and members when completed in the early spring. Each bedroom will have either private or connecting bath, and the lounge and foyer will accommodate large gatherings of our friends for special occasions. The lounge will be 26x52 feet, with a balcony and exposed beams in the two-story effect so attractive in this sort of construction, with a large fireplace at one end. A dining porch is being provided which will be 72 feet long and 12 feet wide, overlooking a view toward the west. Cracrow Cabin: We have just completed Cracrow Cabin, which makes no pretenses to beauty, being a very rough and simple abode. We have four guest bedrooms and enough of the creature comforts such as hot water and electric lights
