THE BARKERS CREEK SCHOOL As the picture below illustrates, the Barkers Creek School was a disgrace to any community or school system. This building was used to accommodate two teachers and approximately 65 pupils. The partition between the two rooms was approximately six feet high. The rooms were dark and hard to heat. It was a fire hazard. There was nothing about it that would inspire children to higher standards of living. It was abandoned in the spring of 1949. THE WILMOT SCHOOL The Wilmot building, as illustrated below was an old frame building, unsightly, and a dangerous fire trap. It was dark and hard to heat. There were no modern conveniences of any description. The grounds were very steep and also inadequate in area. This building was abandoned in the spring of 1950. THE DIX CREEK SCHOOL The Dix Creek School was a small one-teacher school. The building was used jointly for public school and religious services. As the above picture illustrates, it was a make-shift only. This school was discontinued in the spring of 1948. THE DIX CREEK SCHOOL THE BARKERS CREEK SCHOOL THE WILMOT SCHOOL THE LOG CABIN ASSOCIATION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL This building effected the consolidation of the old Barkers Creek, Dix Creek, and Wilmot Schools. It is a modern structure with all modern facilities and conveniences. It was built in 1949-1950 at an approximate cost of $137,000. It was first occupied in the fall of 1950. I#t& §»il|:
