  • THE SYLVA ELEMENTARY BUILDING THE DILLSBORO SCHOOL -^^vmrnmrnm THE JOHNS CREEK SCHOOL THE SYLVA ELEMENTARY BUILDING This building was condemned by court order in February 1948. It was repaired at an approximate cost of $40,500. This was the first project of the School Building and Repair Program. This project was finished in the autumn of 1948. THE DILLSBORO SCHOOL This building was constructed in the very early Twentieth Century. It was a frame building and had become a dangerous fire-trap. The rooms were dark and hard to heat with the pot-bellied stoves. This building was abandoned and sold in 1951. The children of this area now attend the Sylva Elementary and the Log Cabin Association Elementary schools. THE JOHNS CREEK SCHOOL This was the only school building in Jackson County that was adequate for the enrollment. The building was completely redecorated interior and exterior. Walls were extended to enclose rest rooms which were formerly exposed on the entrance side. A dining room was provided by using an extra classroom. This project was completed in 1950 at an approximate cost of $5,000.
