  • three before named boys there was a letter rate to me stating that C.S. Buchanan. Silas. Green. & P.g. green. was trying to get all the properity that I have into there hands and then I mite help myself I will inform you what provisions is worth bacon is worth 20 cts per lb beef 10 cts per Ib flour 9 10 & 11 dollars a barrel salt 10 dollars a sack it is thought that beef will be worth 25 cts in a short time you may all go to raising cattel beef now is worth 12 cts per pound I have not much war Knews to rite only our boys was out the other day and killed 3 yankees and wounded 17 more the yankees wounded our gide and he did the same night we are in ¾ mile of the yankees the pickets is clost enuff to hear one another talk the yankees fires on us every day but we are not alowed to fire the first shot I would like to rite a good many things but I haint paper to rite half What I want to I hope you will excuse me for my bad riteing for I am very feeble and weak at the present time but I am improving but my eyes very weak I must close my letter so no more at present remains yours respectively untill death J.T.
