another man (I forget his name) who was drunk was put in the same cell with him, and during the night killed him. I got my information respecting the Kepharts, which appeared in the [Arena], from E. B. He had gotten it from Pentzer, and gave it to me from mem- ory, which accounts for the slight disagreement in names. I have an aunt Barbara Crane living in Sinking Valley, Blair Co. Pa, She is a sister to my father, but I do not know her I. G. she must be quite old now, and another sister, Charlott Crane, married to a brother of Barbara’s husband lives near Osceola Mills. It would be utterly impossible for one to trace all the connections, for when my grand mother Kephart died in Sept. 1857, she left living, 11 children 96 grand children and 63 great grand children. But I must close for the present, my health is fairly good – am standing my work better than I could expect. Your mother works like a trooper, Belle carries [illegible] studies and takes vocal music, so she ---- ----much in the house. I sometimes think Belle is not as grateful as she might be – does not appreciate her home as she might. True, we do not live in grand style, but she might have it worse. But in the main, she is a very good girl, very prudent and well behaved in company, and very careful as to her company, and we feel very thankful that she is so prudent and gives us no trouble whatever, as it regards her company. So far as her time will al- low, she is quite a worker in the house, and is learning to do all kinds of house-work. She is real good-looking

In this letter of October 29, 1888, I. L. Kephart writes his son Horace Kephart continuing to pass along genealogy information. He tells him of the Goss family, ancestors on his mother's side, and that the living descendants mostly are in Oceola Mills, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. Isaiah Kephart invites Horace to attend the Bigler camp-meeting in August to meet friends and see homes of his ancestors. He also tells Horace of his father's family, the Kepharts, including John Kephart who was murdered last May. Isaiah talks about Horace's sister Belle, how she is doing with school and her behavior.
