  • enlists a drummer and fifer boy and that agrees exactly with his own statement. He died in March 1849 in the 85th year of his age, The Philip Goss who was killed in 1778, was his uncle – his father’s only broth- er. I remember of my mother telling me that her father’s uncle Philip Goss was shot by the Indians, in a canoe, at the time of the Wyoming massacre. Her father’s two brothers, George and John, were killed in the massacre, aged about 16 and 18 years. This is all I know about the Goss fam ily, except what I know of mother’s broth- ers and sisters. of these there were George, John, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, David, Joseph and Solomon. (Solomon died when an infant) George, John, Jacob, and David are dead – all died in Clearfield Co. Pa. Abraham lives in Osceola Mills Pa. and Joseph lives near West Decatur (Blue Ball) Pa. and Isaac lives near Huntington, Pa. The daughters were Mary (married Jonathon Hopkins, and died near Monroe Chapel, Johnson Co. Iowa,); Margaret (mar- ried Robert Carson and died near San- burn School House, Clearfield Co. Pa.); Eliz- abeth (married Jonathon Kephart [son of Adam, brother of Nicholas] and died near Osceola, Mills about the year 1848); Sarah (my mother); and Susannah (married first John Brown, wo died, after that she married Solomon Philips who died, and then she mar- ried John Coulter. She died and was buried Aug. 17th, 1888. Your uncle E. B. attended her funeral near Bigler, Clear field Co. Pa. Abraham Goss’ daughters are all dead. They and their brothers have left a large number of sons and daugh- ters, most of whom live in Clearfield Co. Pa. near Osceola Mills. I am engaged to attend the Bigler Camp- meeting next Aug. in Clearfield Co. Pa. and you must make your arrangements to meet me there. I will arrange so as to spend two or three weeks there, and I
