This is a transcript of an interview of weaver Virginia Dare Strother conducted by Edward Dupuy and Clifford Hotchkiss in 1965. Strother grew up in Sugar Grove, N.C. and was descended from a long line of weavers. In the interview she talks about helping her paternal grandmother thread the old family loom. Her family raised the flax used for the warp. In school she studied weaving and earned the right to use her grandmother's loom. She taught weaving and other classes at the Cove Creek High School for many years. She also worked with Mrs. Elizabeth Lord of the Watauga Industries and produced items sold during the Craft Revival period. Dupuy's 1967 book "Artisans of the Appalachians" contains an essay on Strother that is based on this interview.
