Harry C. Phibbs to Horace Kephart, May 24, 1917

  • In a letter to Horace Kephart on May 24, 1917, Harry C. Phibbs explains that Burroughs-Wellcome and Company does not publish a retail catalog. However, Mr. Phibbs wishes to send “Wellcome’s’ Excerpta Therapeutica” intended for a medicine man, listing prices of all products and illustrations of medical equipment and supplies. He also mentions a useful book, “Tabloid”, published by Burroughs-Wellcome for medical reference assistance.

Dear Mr. Kephart:- We do not publish a list of drugs showing retail prices, that is the prices at which they are sold over the drug store counter. I think it is important, however, that you should have a list of our preparations,and therefore, I am sending you, under separate cover, a copy * of "'Wellcome1 s1 Excerpta 'Therapeutica". This is intended solely for the use of the medical man, hut I guess you are enough of a medicine man to he trusted with the "book. It contains a complete price list of everything we issue on pages 329-393. There are also illustrations of various Medical and First-Aid equipments. « There is another book, we publish for the benefit of explorers carrying medical equipments. This is called 'TABLOID1 A Brief Medical Guide. I think a copy of this will be useful to you for reference purposes, so I am sending it along. You will be interested in the appendix, where notices are given on the various drug preparations.
