  • GENERAL INFORMATION Membership in the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club is open to any reputable white person. Those desiring membership should communicate with the Secretary, Box 454, Knoxville, Tenn. The annual dues are three dollars. All members are urged to bring visitors on the hikes, and to encourage others to belong to the Club. Hikes are taken without regard to the weather. Experienced hikers say the most unusual and dramatic scenes are to be found during or just after inclement weather. Hikers should cooperate with and acknowledge the authority of those persons serving as leaders on each hike. That the leader may fulfill his obligation all hikers are asked to stay with the crowd. Practically all trips start from the Dixie System. (Dixie Drive-It-Yourself, Inc.) This auto rental agency at 713 South Gay Street very kindly allows us to use its waiting room without cost. BUSINESS MEETINGS AND FORUMS All members of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club are invited to attend the business meetings and conferences held at 7:30 P. M. of the last Tuesday in each month at the Y. M. C. A. Except for special occasions, heretofore, these have been strictly meetings of the Club Board of Directors, and the hike leaders for the following month invited to discuss arrangements of their hikes. The purpose of these monthly meetings remain as before, but the officers want all members to attend, who wish to do so, and join in the discussions of plans to improve the Club. 52
