  • September 17th - 18th ANDREWS BALD Come on, you pioneers. Here is a new hike. No member of the club has covered the entire trail. Of course the leaders will cover the trail before the hike but most of the club will be on the path for the first time. Leave the cars at Newfound Gap, shoulder your pack and prepare to hike. Follow the road to Indian Gap and then take the Appalachian Trail for Clingman's Dome where camp will be made Saturday night. The trail is smooth and the slope gentle, rising only 1597 feet in 8 miles. After a good night's sleep on the highest peak in the Smokies take the downhill road for Andrew's Bald. Little is known of the trail from here, except that it is cleared. There is a cabin, with a spring nearby, on the Bald. According to George Grant, National Park Photographer, some of the finest views obtainable in the entire Park area are from this mountain. Further particulars concerning the trip will be available before the hike. Leave Dixie System 1 P. M. Round trip hiking distance approximately 20 miles. Elevation, Clingman's 6642; Andrew's 5860. Trail smooth. Take tent or poncho; blankets, candle-lantern, canteen and food for 3 meals. Leaders: CHAS. G. GIBSON (3-3210) DOROTHY TRAINER (Gatlinburg) 51
