  • April 3rd SAVAGE'S COAL CREEK ROCK GARDENS A hike to be enjoyed by all! But not so much of a hike as a Nature Study and picnic. Many people have never heard of this marvelous wonder that we have in East Tennessee. The Rock Gardens have been compared with the Garden of the Gods in the West. Among the wide variety ..of vegetation found is a rare specimen of moss. The Gardens are said to be the only place in the world that this particular species of i 10 has 1 ecu discovered. Among the many wild flowers that will bloom in the spring are the Harbinger of Sprin;;, Shooting Star and Spring Beauty. The Shooting Star is very beautiful and is now becoming rare as many people pick it. There are three varieties—white, yellow and purple. Mr. A. J. Sharp, one of the leaders, is connected with the University of Tennessee Botany Department and will be prepared to furnish information about the vegetation in the Gardens. Leave Dixie System at 1:30 P. M., drive to Coal Creek, turn right and follow a narrow gravel road to the Gardens. Everyone is urged to bring their supper and have one of the 'first of the season' out-door picnics. Lasers: A. J. SHARP (5-5482) MARY COLEMAN (2-2400) 23
