  • January 24th DEAL'S GAP TO TAPOCO An interesting section of the Appalachian Trail is the 3.4 miles from Deal's Gap to Tapoco. We park our cars at the Gap and hike along the State line southwestward for a distance of about 2.5 miles, then down one of the ridges on the Carolina side to the Aluminum Company dam and power house at Tapoco. We will find many fine views of Hangover and the beautiful lakes of that section. The cars will be transferred to Tapoco for the return trip—or on up the Cheoah Riv:r 9 miles, to the magnificent San- teetlah dam and lake, as may be preferred. Leave Dixie System at 8 A. M. Take candle lantern, canteen and food for one meal. Hiking distance 3.4 miles. Trail easy but last part not cleared. Elevation 2500 feet. Cost of transportation about $2.40 each. Lenders: ELIZABETH IJAMS (5-9547) BESSE GEAGLEY (2-2105) -II- "Something hidden. Go and find it. Go and look behind the Ranges. Something lost behind the Ranges Lost and waiting for you. Go!" Kipling. 15
