  • We are departing this year from the customary installation and combining that meeting with a square dance and hike. Other interesting get-to;;ethcr meetings are the Mountain Literature Program, the Folk Song Festival, picnic to Savage Gardens at Coal Creek and the Appalachian Trail Pep meet. Did you notice the A. T. on the tree in the emblem? The Appalachian Trails Conference held at Rutland, Vermont, in May is a big event of the year that every Smoky Mountain hiker should attend if possible. Refer to the bibliography, which has been lengthened, for books and articles on hiking and camping in general and about the people, geology, fauna and flora of the Great Smoky Mountain.-, in particular. The hik' ing distances from various points, as set Out in the table of measurements, were made by members of the Club with a metered bicycle wheel. Don't overlook the Code of Ethics, nor fail to abide by it. All leaders should carefully read instructions to them in the has'; of the book. Note particularly paragraph 7. On page 52 is a table of correct elevations of major points of interest. We are most grateful to Mr. Albright and Mr. Mac- Kaye for the articles they have given ur,, and their interest in our mountains. Without the splendid assistance of an able Committee, and the cooperation of the Schedule Committee, it would have been impossible for this booklet to have been published. We hope it is accepted and referred to with as much pleasure as it is submitted. Wahc? WaHoo, Editor.
