If there is anything new takes place about home I would like to hear it. You can tell Miss Hughes folks that Tolliver is well and getting along as well as the rest and Wm. Jones father the same about Wm. They are both well as common. Right how you and old Ben come out in your settlement. I want you to use my books with care. I nothing more of importance to right at this time. You can tell Dobbens folks that Calloway is well. Me and him and Tolliver had a pretty smart singing last night. I can inform you that part of this Regiment has got their arms but I can't tell when we will all be armed. Right soon and give me all the news so nothing more only yours truly with respect George J. Huntley To [Mrs.] Huntley [Written upside down] I want you to send me a piece of woolen cloth just like my pants about the size of your hand for a patch. You can send it in a letter a piece like my newest pants.

In this letter of January 5, 1862, G. J. Huntley writes to friends and relations stating that the health of his Regiment is much better, however some still dying of illness. He does not yet know when his Regiment will be leaving or when they will be armed. This letter is one of a series of 46 that Huntley wrote home while serving in the 34th Regiment of N. C. Volunteers during the Civil War.
