  • March the 11th, 1862 Martin County, Hamilton With pleasure I seat myself this morning to drop you a few lines to inform you of my present situation. I cannot say that I am well. I am able to be up and about but my health is by no means good. Wm. Jones is in common health, Tolliver Huse is at Goldsboro in the hospital. I have not heard from him in several days. He was not very bad the last time I heard from him. We are still at this place but I cannot tell how long we will remain here. They are still fortifying this place but it may be all of no use. I have heard nothing from Burnsides lately. Where he will make his next attack, I cannot tell. They are doing every thing they can to get our Regiment in for the War. There is a good many joining. I have nothing of mutch importance to write you. Ransen Price got here a few days ago. He brought me the things that you sent. I want you to right as often as you can.
